What are PHBs?

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a polymer belonging to the polyesters class that are of interest as bio-derived and biodegradable plastics. PHBs are currently mainly produced from first generation feedstocks  such as sugars or plant oils.

Why PHBs-derived packaging?

PHB-derived packaging solutions are attractive, as they are:

compostable

derived from renewables

biodegradable

What is BioSupPack planning to do with PHBs?

BioSupPack will test how brewer spent grains can be used as fermentation feedstock for PHB polymer production. BioSupPack also will scale up the solutions from pilot scale to large scale.
