On 25 and 26 September, the BioSupPack 40th month meeting was held at the Agricultural University of Athens AUA in Athens, Greece, marking the end of the second reporting period.
During the meeting, the Consortium had the chance to share the work done and the preliminary results, discuss upcoming activities, take technical decisions and plan the next actions for the improvement of the circular bioeconomy in the EU. The Partners participated toghether also in productive workgroup sessions to define the exploitation plan of the project results, the quantities of PHB materials and requirements for the fibre based prototypes.

About the BioSupPack project:
The aim of BioSupPack is to significantly reduce the amount of packaging by developing packaging solutions based on polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) derived from residues and demonstrating a feasible recycling process for these biobased plastics to ensure that resources remain in circulation. Coordinated by the Technological Institute of Plastics AIMPLAS (Spain) and with a budget of EUR 8.8 million, BioSupPack is developing a demonstration process for the production and enzymatic recycling of environmentally safe, superior and versatile rigid packaging solutions based on the new PHA family of biobased polymers. The main goal of BioSupPack is to deliver novel, cost-competitive and versatile bio-based packaging solutions based on PHA, for the packaging of food, cosmetics, homecare and beverage products as well as no environmental damage during and after their use.
The Bioeconomy Strategy and its Action Plan pave the way to a more innovative, resource-efficient and competitive EU society, to accelerate the deployment of a sustainable EU bioeconomy so as to maximize its contribution towards the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the Paris Agreement, and the EU policy priorities as Policy Strategy, as the Circular Economy Action Plan and the Communication on Accelerating Clean Energy Innovation.
Backed by more than 25 per cent private capital as BBI-JU, BioSupPack receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio-Based Industries Consortium under grant agreement No. 101023685.
