A joint initiative launched by the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee in March 2017, the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform is a virtual open space whose aim is to promote the transition to a circular economy by facilitating policy dialogue among stakeholders, by disseminating, good practices, strategies and voluntary commitments, and by providing information on the circular economy and related activities. In this perspective, the Good Practices section of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, to which BioSupPack now belongs, includes relevant practices, innovative processes and ‘learning from experience’ examples.
As a “network of networks”, the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform goes beyond sectorial activities and highlights cross-sector opportunities. It also provides a meeting place for stakeholders to share and scale up effective solutions and address specific challenges. The Platform bridges existing initiatives at local, regional and national level, and supports the implementation of the circular economy.
In order to make the circular economy a reality it aims to:
- Drive the circular economy in the Member States, in regional and local governments, and among civil society organisations and businesses;
- Strengthen cooperation among stakeholder networks to facilitate the exchange of expertise, good practices, knowledge and lessons learnt in the circular economy;
- Identify social, economic and cultural barriers (such as social, economic and cultural) to the transition towards a circular economy with the intention of informing policy at all level of governance.
